Getting to Know Me

Who am I?

My name is Denali and I love cooking (obviously). I also like reading, writing, and, thanks to The Diner Carr, have developed an appreciation for food photography as well. I started this blog because I would like to inspire more people to cook from scratch and provide ideas for people looking to try something new.

My Story…

Growing up, I wasn’t exposed to a large variety of foods. There was a handful of dishes that my mom would rotate through. They were all simple and delicious dishes that only took, at the most, an hour to make.

It wasn’t until my teenage years that I really started learning how to cook. I asked my aunt and cousin for help and they, like always, helped and supported my desire to learn. I asked questions and watched what they did while they told me stories of their various cooking escapades. My aunt would give me cooking lessons after I finished my homework and those memories will always hold a special place in my heart. They always know how to encourage me when I need it and for that I will always be grateful.

Once I graduated high school, I decided that I wanted to go into Culinary School, but being as family oriented as I am, I didn’t want to go far from home. Luckily, my local technical college had just started their new culinary program and I eagerly registered for my first semester of culinary school. I learned about food safety, different types of food, and about different diets. After two long years of hard work , I’m finally in the final stretch and will be finished with my associates degree in May.

I have known people that claim that they would like to cook from scratch more often, but that it takes so much time. And some things do, however, I strive to encourage more people to cook from scratch by providing recipes that are quick, simple, and delicious. To me, a home-cooked meal made with love is better than anything else and I want to share that with y'all!
