Of all the pies out there, Apple Pie is one of my absolute favorites, topped only by pumpkin pie. I prefer Granny Smith apple for this recipe, but you can substitute other apples if you're looking for a sweeter flavor. You can prepare this filling ahead of time and freeze it for up to a month as long as it is in an air-tight container. Use this to top ice cream, waffles, fill pie shells, or make hand pies.

Ingredients

  • 4 Granny Smith Apples

  • 1/3 cup Brown Sugar

  • 2 Tbsp. Butter

  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon

  • 5 Tbsp. Water, divided

  • 1 Tbsp. Cornstarch

Preparation

Peel the apples.

You can either cut the apple into 1/4-inch slices or into 1/2-inch cubes.

Mix together cornstarch and 2 Tbsp. water.

Let's Get Cooking

Melt butter and cinnamon over medium heat.

Stir in apples, sugar, and the remaining 3 Tbsp. of water.

Cover and cook 4-5 minutes.

Slowly add the cornstarch/water mix.

Cook another 1-2 minutes, the apples should be tender but not mushy.

Have Fun with It!

While this pie filling is perfect for the upcoming holiday season, it can be used for so many other things. Try it out and let me know what y'all think in the comments below. Find me on Facebook, TikTok, and Pinterest.
