I have been making bread from scratch for my husband and I for the past couple months. I have tried several recipes, altering and tweaking these recipes until I found one that both of us like.
Ingredients
2 Tbsp. Active Dry Yeast
1 1/4 cup Warm Water
2 Tbsp. Dry Milk Powder
1/4 cup Softened Butter
2 3/4 cup Flour
1/4 cup Sugar
1 tsp. Salt
1 Egg
The Dough
Dissolve yeast in warm water and let bloom* for 10 minutes.
Combine the dry milk powder, butter, flour, sugar, salt, and egg in a stand mixer.
Slowly add yeast/water mixture to flour mixture.
Knead with dough hook attachment for 10 minutes or until dough pulls away from edges.
Proofing and Baking
Place dough in bowl and let rise for an hour.
Place dough into loaf pan and let rise to the edge of the pan.
Bake at 400 for about 45 minutes to an hour or until golden brown.
Cool completely before cutting.
Have Fun with It!
While I mostly use this recipe for sandwich bread, it can also be used for rolls by dividing the dough into palm sized dough-balls and placing them on a parchment line cookie sheet. Let them double in size and then bake. Follow The Diner Carr on Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok.
