Growing up, things like soft pretzels were special treats, reserved for carnivals and trips to the mall for birthdays or Christmas shopping. My mom would get my brother and me pretzels from the Auntie Anne's mall booth. So one day, I decided to try making them on my own. My first attempt went poorly, I had cooked them at too high a temperature and for too long, but with each attempt the got better. Until finally, I made a batch that I was satisfied with. And now I would like to share this with y'all.
Ingredients
2 1/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast
1 cup Warm Water
2 1/2 cup Flour
2 tsp Sugar
2 tsp Salt
From Dough
Mix the yeast, sugar, and water.
Slowly mix in flour and salt until well combined.
Knead the dough.
Proof for 45 minutes to an hour.
Separate dough into 5-10 sections.
Shape by rolling each section into 1/2-inch-thick logs and then shaping into pretzel shapes.
To Pretzels!
Dip each twist in baking soda and boiling water for 2 minutes.
Sprinkle salt over pretzels and bake at 400 degrees for 5-10 minutes or until golden brown.
Have Fun with It!
