This is a great southern style breakfast that is a great source of protein to start your day off right! The combination of the cheese grits, Air-Fryer Potatoes, and I especially love the fried egg that goes on top of this dish. It adds a extra layer of flavor that just takes this to another level!
Southern Breakfast Bowl
Ingredients
1 cup Yellow Grits
2 and 1/2 cup Chicken Broth
2 cup Heavy Cream
1/2 cup Butter
1 and 1/2 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese
1 batch Air-Fryer Potatoes
2 strips of Bacon, chopped
2 Fried Egg, preferred temp. (a.k.a. over-easy, over-medium, over-hard)
Salt and pepper to taste
Green onions, optional garnish
Preparation
Bring the chicken broth to a boil over medium heat.
Add the grits and then stir in the butter an heavy cream in with the grits.
Reduce heat to low.
Cook bacon in a skillet. Save the grease.
Add cheese to grits an adjust seasonings as needed.
Fry the egg to your preferred temperature in the reserved bacon grease.
Spoon cheese grits into a bowl and add a hand full of potatoes.
Top with one egg. Sprinkle bacon bits over top of egg.
Add a little green onions on top if using.
Have Fun With It!
This breakfast bowl is a wonderful combination of flavors. I will say that this does tend to be a bit filling. I personally like an over-easy egg with this because the runny yolk adds another layer of flavor and works like a sauce. Y'all let me know what you think of this recipe in the comments below!
