Southern-Style Breakfast Bowl

This is a great southern style breakfast that is a great source of protein to start your day off right! The combination of the cheese grits, Air-Fryer Potatoes, and I especially love the fried egg that goes on top of this dish. It adds a extra layer of flavor that just takes this to another level!


Southern Breakfast Bowl


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Yellow Grits

  • 2 and 1/2 cup Chicken Broth

  • 2 cup Heavy Cream

  • 1/2 cup Butter

  • 1 and 1/2 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese

  • 1 batch Air-Fryer Potatoes

  • 2 strips of Bacon, chopped

  • 2 Fried Egg, preferred temp. (a.k.a. over-easy, over-medium, over-hard)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Green onions, optional garnish

Preparation


  1. Bring the chicken broth to a boil over medium heat.

  2. Add the grits and then stir in the butter an heavy cream in with the grits.

  3. Reduce heat to low.

  4. Cook bacon in a skillet. Save the grease.

  5. Add cheese to grits an adjust seasonings as needed.

  6. Fry the egg to your preferred temperature in the reserved bacon grease.

  7. Spoon cheese grits into a bowl and add a hand full of potatoes.

  8. Top with one egg. Sprinkle bacon bits over top of egg.

  9. Add a little green onions on top if using.


Have Fun With It!

This breakfast bowl is a wonderful combination of flavors. I will say that this does tend to be a bit filling. I personally like an over-easy egg with this because the runny yolk adds another layer of flavor and works like a sauce. Y'all let me know what you think of this recipe in the comments below!
